In early 2023 I took a 3-week house-and-pet-sitting gig in Luxemburg, Wisconsin (population 1,400). The house was located in a somewhat remote part of an already remote town, its relative isolation exacerbated by a heavy blizzard that occurred the day I moved in. The wifi connection was unreliable and I kept getting kicked offline whenever I tried to reply to an email. With little to do between caring for two small Maltese, watching tv westerns, and shoveling snow, I set to writing and recording some new songs, convinced that the only way to stave off any potential Jack Torrance scenarios was to try to view this experience as a kind of writer’s retreat. This batch of demos is the fruit of this labor.

Two of the songs date back to the mid-nineties, but the remaining 8 were all either written and recorded during this retreat or in the days preceding it.

My goal was to write some new material for my band One Eleven Heavy for a record we’re hoping to record this summer, but none of the songs I was writing seemed to fit; that’s how it goes sometimes. I got these instead.

I may at some point re-record a few of these with a full band for a wider release, but I already have a pretty hefty backlog of songs, so who knows?

I’ve been looking for this band! Psychedelia at its absolute finest......it takes its time, spacious interludes abound, and lots of atmosphere. Interesting tidbits here and there, distorted, pleasing vocals. They obviously don't take themselves too seriously either, but man, this is the real tripped out serious deal. I am hooked.
